Funding opportunity reminders + save the date for January meeting

Dear BCF colleagues,

We hope you had a restful winter break, despite the many challenges that have followed us into the new year. As the spring semester gets underway, we wanted to remind you of a few financial resources and opportunities available to contingent faculty (one of which has an upcoming application deadline):

  • Faculty Emergency Fund: In the fall, the college created an emergency relief fund for faculty facing hardships related to Covid-19, providing awards of $500 to $1000. The fund is open to all full-time faculty, and to adjunct faculty who have taught at Barnard for at least a year (two semesters over consecutive academic years). From the President and Provost’s Oct. 5 email: “…faculty can learn more through the MyBarnard portal Covid-19 Information tab and apply here for emergency funds to offset unexpected costs related to COVID-19, including technology needs, child or eldercare support, and other relevant expenses.”
  • Adjunct Professional Development Fund: Adjuncts who have taught four or more semesters at Barnard can apply to the Adjunct Professional Development Fund for the reimbursement of any expenses related to enhancing their research and teaching (up to $2000). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are available here
  • Class of 1960 Adjunct Faculty Research Fund: Adjuncts who have taught three or more years at Barnard may apply to the newly established Class of 1960 Adjunct Faculty Research Fund. One applicant will receive a grant of $10,000, to be made available in Summer 2021 (pending the instructor’s reappointment to teach at Barnard in 2021-22). Applications go through the college’s Grants Committee and are due Tues, Jan. 26 at 5pm EST.

We encourage all eligible faculty to apply to these funds. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Also, please mark your calendars for Thursday, January 28, at 5pm EST, when we’ll have our monthly general meeting, open to all BCF unit members. More info and Zoom link to come.

In solidarity,

Siobhan and Todd
